Baxter Buddy

Baxter needs surgery :(

Baxter started limping 2 weeks ago. He wouldn't walk on one of his hind legs. I took a day off and took him to the vet. He couldn't see any breaks, and said it should hopefully heal in 2 weeks.

Last night Baxter was running up the steps from the garage and yelped, he hurt the other hind leg. Now he can't really walk or stand. We freaked out. Took him to a vet this morning. He found that the second injury was a clean break of a tendon or something like that in his "knee". How to fix it? Surgery.

We will no doubt go ahead with this surgery. I am not too excited about dropping $1,300 as we are trying to save for a possible move. Or the possibility that the other leg will need it too, but Baxter is part of the family. We don't expect anyone to understand it. Our dogs are our "kids". We would do anything for them, and we will.

Its gonna be OK Buddy.

dude. krystal and I read this blog together. you know that we know exactly how you guys are feeling about this. you gotta do what you gotta do. pet insurance is worth looking into. especially for those of us who consider our pets a part of the family. but, unfortunately, pet insurance has lots of limitations. it may not even cover what you're going through with baxter right now.

good luck to baxter! ramona is still limping 7 weeks out from her surgery. it takes a loooong time for them to rehab from this kind of operation. but, she's obviously waaay better off than she was when she was dragging her hind leg.

Yes, I think that anyone who's ever loved a pet would understand your situation. Wishing Baxter a successful convalescence.
By the way, I saw that puppy photo on your flickr and thought you guys had found yourselves a third beagle! Super-duper cute, that one.
